TECH HUMOR

The back page of each month's MacAddict was devoted to Shut Down, a single page of (usually) parodistic humor. From the visual fun of Trophy Podcasting to the dense text of a faux Reader Survey to the self-parody of Grate Expectations, Shut Down - if not always containing the most sophisticated wit known to god or man - was a reader favorite for the life of the magazine.

Quick disclaimer: Shut Down was usually a collaborative effort by the whole team - the examples below (to my best recollection) are ones to which I contributed the text, if not always the original idea.

Trophy Podcasting   Expo Survival Kit   Grate Expectations
TROPHY PODCASTING: It may be an obvious pun, but it's still fun - and yes, shad-scented Sound Putty is actually real. (Apr/06)

EXPO SURVIVAL KIT: San Francisco's yearly Macworld Expo is a gathering of the faithful - and we wanted to help. (Feb/06)

GRATE EXPECTATIONS: We redid our real Power Mac G5 cover in a cheesy theme - and mocked our fervid cover lines. (Oct/03)

The Perils of the Zero-Widget Rating   Reader Survey   Denizens of the Mac Expo
ZERO WIDGET: This one's close to impossible to explain, but don't skip the faux articles - PDF recommended. (Aug/03)

READER SURVEY: Next to an actual survey, we again mock ourselves. Including! Endless! Exclamation! Points! (May/03)

USUAL SUSPECTS:That's me, above, and those are other MacAddict staffers on the rest of the page. We had no shame. (Mar/02)
